GTA IV Removed from Steam because of Game for Windows Live

Rockstar Game’s Grand Theft Auto IV recently disappeared from Steam i.e its no longer available for purchase on Steam. The reason behind it is Rockstar can no longer generate keys to sell GTA IV.But,you can still play the game if you already have a copy of steam version.

Unavailability of GTA IV on Steam is because Microsoft stopped supporting ‘Games for Windows Live’ platform on which the title depends on.The spokesperson from Rockstar Game said :

“Grand Theft Auto 4 was originally created for the Games For Windows Live platform, With Microsoft no longer supporting Games For Windows Live, it is no longer possible to generate the additional keys needed to continue selling the current version of the game. We are looking at other options for distributing GTA4 for PC and will share more information as soon as we can.”

Developers are still looking for other options to sell the game and will update ASAP,according to reports. However, there’s no official word from Rockstar about how long they expect GTA 4 to be absent from Steam.

Game For Windows Live was launched back in 2007 for Xbox Live on Windows PC games, and started to collapse in 2012 when Xbox Live for Windows was launched, and officially went down in 2014.
